Community Forum Moderators (volunteer)

Community Forum Moderators (volunteer)

Would you like to help new puppy owners to give their pets the best start in life?  Our Family Dog – an online community providing advice and support to first-time dog owners – is keen to hear from dog trainers and behaviourists accredited by the Animal Behaviour & Training Council (ABTC), or students working towards an ABTC-accreditation, who would like to support new puppy owners through an online forum.

This is a volunteering opportunity, which may be of particular interest to students or recent graduates who are looking to develop their client-facing skills and portfolio.

About Our Family Dog

Our Family Dog is a not-for-profit community interest company. Our purpose is to address the mismatch between the expectations and reality of dog ownership, by supporting people to get a puppy responsibly and safely; prepare for their puppy’s arrival, and give their pet the best start in life.

Our model combines the latest scientific research in dog health, welfare, behaviour and training, and human behaviour change theory; placing both the need of dogs and their owners at the heart of what we do.

We provide simple, accessible, non-judgmental advice to help owners align the needs of their dogs with their own busy lifestyles. We are governed by a set of guiding principles; which includes only promoting evidence-based and non-aversive training and behaviour modification methods for dogs, and only promoting and allowing the promotion of dog trainers and behaviourists that are accredited by the ABTC.

Can you help us?

Launched in summer 2019, and with a fast growing community, we are preparing to set in motion the next phase of support for new puppy owners. This will include a semi-moderated forum for new puppy owners to seek advice and share their experiences.

To ensure that puppy owners are given accurate advice and signposted to professional support where needed, we are recruiting volunteer forum moderators. We would like to hear from ABTC- accredited dog trainers or behaviourists, or students working towards an ABTC-accreditation who have an empathic approach to dealing with people who would like to engage in an online forum.
